Here comes the next big JUMP.
Jewel Class will be in
Class starts
This is our first class in
On the transmission days we will have class in the morning and afternoon. From Omega, it looks like you will sleep better that way. If we can (we still need to work change this with the hotel), we will have class in the morning and evening on at least some days when we are practicing, to give your system a chance to air out and as a change of pace.
REGISTRATION:
Yvonne Andrus is the contact person for registration. Because of the size of the class, the policy for this class will, like Omega, require that full payment be done before the class. But because in this case we do not need to work with the hotel in terms of comparing room lists in advance for who will be staying with them, we don’t need early deposits. So, to simplify things both for you and for us, tuition is due March 11, which is 3 weeks before the class. No deposits are needed beforehand, just full payment by March 11. And as with Omega, unless there are special considerations that are told to us beforehand, this is a strict policy. We need to receive the full payment BY March 11 for you to receive the early registration price. As with Omega, the class is $1100, and early registration price is $1000. But in addition, because of the squeeze it puts on us when things come in as we are packing to leave, any payments not received BY March 23 will be charged an extra $50 late fee. Contact details for Yvonne and info for sending payments are listed below, on the second to last page of this file. The payment refund policy is there as well. Repeaters will receive a 40% discount from the price (which varies according to the time of payment, as above.)
TRAVEL:
Airport: There is an airport about 20 miles
and a 30-minute drive from the beachfront of
Getting to your hotel from the Airport: The easiest thing is to take a taxi. There is a taxi stand at the airport, where cabs from different companies line up to take you to wherever you want to go. The cost should be about $35-$50. This is the rate for the cab, not per person, as long as you are all going to the same hotel.
There is also:
Airport Express, a sedan service, which you would call in advance for reservations. Their number is (757) 857-3991. Cost is $35 for up to 3 people, $8 each additional person.
Carey VIP service: If you have a few people, you can save by using this service. There are no reservations taken. You go to Door 3 of the airport for pickup, usually with a maximum wait of 15 minutes. $33 plus $5 for each additional passenger for up to 3 additional passengers (ie, 3 passengers would cost $43; 4 would cost $48). 1-877-422-1105 or 1-757-321-1541 (at the airport). Website is: http://careyvip.net/careyvip/airportconnection/ or email sales@careyvip.net .
Orange Peel Transportation: If you have a few people, you can save by using this service as well. Cost is $42 for 1 person, $44 for 2 people, $46 for 3 people and then $13 extra for each additional person. For this service, you need to make advance reservations. Call 1-757-463-7500. Or go to www.norfolkairportshuttle.com .
There does not seem to be any bus or train possibilities from the airport.
HOTELS:
3900 Atlantic Avenue (at 39th St), Virginia Beach, VA 23451
(757) 428-1711 (but don’t call for reservations—see below)
http://www.vboceanfrontnorth.com/
This is our venue. They have the nicest rooms on our list, but the rooms are also more
expensive. Each room also has a private balcony that looks out to the sea, and that comes with cable TV, call out phone, hair drier, free wireless and a refrigerator. Microwaves may be available by request. Rooms for us are $99 (plus taxes), whether that is 1 or 2 people in the room.
The hotel has both an indoor pool and a heated outdoor pool. There is no continental breakfast.
There is a restaurant on site.
We have a small block of 25 or so rooms that come either with 2 double beds or a king. When this block fills up, as I believe it will, we may or may not be able to get more. Let me know if you try to reserve a room and there are no more left and I will see if I can get any more. They have set up a website for our group, for reservation. Go to:
When you get to this site, it will look like you have reached the hotel’s main page, but you haven’t. You’ll see on the Rate Preference Line that it already has VOR as rate code, which is our group. When you click on the check in date, a calendar pops up. You’ll need to click on the small arrow by the month to the right to scroll forward to March 2008. When you get to March, you’ll notice that the last 2 days—when you will be most likely checking in—seem to be missing. They are not missing; they are below the line at the bottom of the month. To make them visible, left-click in the empty space to the left of the 1 (the first day of the month), and then drag the mouse down to the bottom of the month; the last 2 days will be exposed. Then, when you are on the page where you seem to be given a choice about various kinds of room types, be aware that the only kind in our group booking are either 2 double beds or a king.
Below is a list of other hotels, as well as one hostel, that are walking distance to the Holiday Inn. Some are just a few blocks away and the furthest is 16 blocks away. (To give you a scale: 10 blocks is a half-mile, which takes about 15 minutes at a leisurely pace, 10 minutes if you are hustling). The nicest rooms are probably in the Holiday Inn, where the class is, but they are also a little more expensive than the other hotels listed here. If you are looking for a cottage, kitchenette or apartment, you can find all of those on our list. All the places listed should be decent. Most are on Atlantic Ave, which faces the sea. More expensive, perhaps more luxurious hotels can also be found nearby, but they are not on this list.
We
have arrangements with some of these hotels. For those, I have listed in their
description that you should let them know that you are with the VortexHealing
Group.
For the approximate prices given below, some are based on
actual April, 2008 rates and some had to be based on April, 2007 rates, if 2008
rates were not yet available. So some places may be a little higher than what
we have listed for April 2008. (The rates for the places we have arrangements
with are, of course, actual prices.) For classes to be held in Virginia Beach
in 2009, which is 2 years off from the time of this writing and which will also
be in busier seasons, rates will be higher.) Prices below do not include taxes.
Hotels are listed by proximity, with the ones closest to the Holiday Inn at the top:
3614 Atlantic Ave (at 36th St) Atlantic Ave., 2 blocks from the Holiday Inn
1-757-428-2116 Go to their website, www.cuttysarkvb.com for their rates, but call for
reservations. Tell them you are with the VortexHealing group. The easiest way to make a
reservation is to send an email to Mrs. Koch at fun@cuttysark.com . She’s in her 70’s so give her a few days to get back to you. Let them know you are in the VortexHealing Group.
This hotel is older but clean, and “Family Run”.
There are 13 Efficiency Studios, fully equipped for cooking with stove, microwave and &
refrigerator. And there are Historic Beach Cottages which vary in size from studio to 3 BR. There is no breakfast, no phones, no wireless. There is TV and a small, heated outdoor pool.

Ocean Cove Motel
300 24th St.– (16 blocks from the Holiday Inn and 1 block back from the beach).
1-757-491-1830 // www.oceancovemotel.com
Older but in good shape. They have cottages, rooms, efficiencies & apartments.
They have also bought a building next door, called Angie’s Cottage (302 24th St) that is viewed at www.angiescottage.com. Angie’s Cottage has a hostel (five dormitory rooms with a total of 34 beds (bunks)). It also has rooms, efficiencies, one bedroom apts. Some rooms feature refrigerators, private entrances, porches with hammocks, kitchens, and sun decks.
Hostel rooms are under $20. Call for the varying rates on other units—I expect them to be at a good price. Cottages rent Saturday to Saturday but it’s possible they could make exceptions for a long stay in April if it is slow. Rooms have one or two beds, individually controlled heat and air conditioning, room size refrigerator, and cable TV. Efficiencies are the same as as our rooms with the addition of a kitchenette. All rooms, efficiencies and cottages are NON SMOKING.

Sea, Beach & Boardwalk: these are the best attractions in the area, especially if the weather is
nice. But the water will be too cold to swim in that time of year without a wetsuit.
The Heritage Health Food Store, at 314 Laskin Rd, between 30th and 31st , is a decent health
food store, walking distance from the Holiday Inn. They have offered us a 15% discount for Vortex students on their first visit only. Students with a business license, practitioners, can apply for a business account for discounts. Good discounts on Edgar Cayce products.
In addition to health foods & supplements, they have books, gifts, and a very good café.
ARE – Association for Research and Enlightenment – This is the Edgar Cayce Institute
215 67th St, 1-757-437-7202 www.edgarcayce.org
Historic library, book store, labyrinth
Massage and day spa.
Pedaling on the Boardwalk: There are little buggies you can rent that seat about 6 people, that move by everyone (or most everyone) pedaling. You can pedal down the boardwalk in them.
There are lots of restaurants within an easy walk. I will have a list of them for you at class.
