Omega Class and Multi-D Jewel Class will both be in
Weather is mild in May and October, and the sea will be warmer in October. (In early April, for a Jewel class, 6 students were actually in the sea.) If you want to get into the sea but need warmer water, consider buying a summer wetsuit—sometimes called a ‘shortie’. They are not very expensive and can make the difference as to whether you can enjoy being in the sea or not. There is a concrete boardwalk that goes right by the hotel, along the sea. You can walk on it or on the beach, or rent bicycles to ride on the boardwalk.
Our Venue for both classes is the Surfside Oceanfront Inn & Suites. (Details are below.)
For Omega, class will be during the day hours, except for one day where you will have the afternoon off and we will meet for a couple of hours in the evening. For Multi-D Jewel, since the class is 16 days, there will be one full day and one half-day off.
IMPORTANT:
REGISTRATION:
Yvonne Andrus is the contact person for registration. Because of the size of these classes, the policy for this class will require that full payment be done before the class. But we don’t need early deposits. So, to simplify things both for you and for us, full tuition is due 3 weeks before the arrival date for the class: for Omega by April 15 and for Multi-D Jewel by Sept 9. No deposits are needed beforehand, just full payment by these dates. And unless there are special considerations that are told to us beforehand, this is a strict policy. We need to receive the full payment by these dates for you to receive the early registration discount, which is $100 off. Without the discount, the full price for Omega is $980 and the full price for Multi-D Jewel is $1490. The discount prices are $880 and $1390 respectively. But in addition, because of the squeeze it puts on us when registrations come in as we are packing to leave, any payments not received by April 28 for Omega or Sept 22 for Multi-D Jewel will be charged an extra $50 late fee. Contact details for Yvonne and info for sending payments are listed below, later in this file. The payment refund policy is there as well. Repeaters (of Omega) will receive a 40% discount from the price (which varies according to the time of payment, as above.) We do not take bank wires because in the past they created a lot of problems for us.
The credit card form for these
classes is on the last page of this file.

If we run out of rooms here—and we will—a few buildings up the street is their ‘sister’ hotel, owned by the same owners, called the Sandcastle. The rooms in the Sandcastle will be available for May only, for Omega, not for Multi-D Jewel in October, as they already are mostly booked-out for then. The rooms in each hotel are quite similar. Both hotels have recently refurbished their bathrooms and the rooms are in good condition. They are older buildings, and it shows a bit in the hallways, but the rooms are much nicer than the hallways and the front of the lobby of our venue has a fountain with a nice a waterfall. For students sharing a room, it may be convenient that the sink is not directly in the bathroom, enabling an easier time-share in the morning.
Our meeting room is on the 4th

Room Costs at our Venue and the Sandcastle
For Omega:
Regular Rooms: $89 + tax /night, whether 1 or more people stay in the room.
Suites: They cost $129 + tax per night. They do not have a stove or oven, and plates and silverware are not provided, but they do have whirlpool tubs in the bedrooms. If the Surfside Oceanfront runs out of suites, you can ask to have one at the Sandcastle.
For Multi-D
Jewel (available at our Venue only, not at the Sandcastle):
Prices
are more discounted in October than in May.
Regular Rooms: $59 + tax /night, whether 1 or more people stay in the room.
Suites: (described above) $99 + tax/night.
OTHER HOTELS:
I expect that
both Omega and Multi-D Jewel will have more students than can fit in our venue
hotel. And its sister hotel will not be available for October, so I have made a
list of other hotels. The four listed below, in this section, are ones that we
have an agreement with, which gets us a discount and specific rates for 2009
(until we reach some cutoff date or they run out of rooms). These hotels were
chosen from the larger group of possible
I want to strongly encourage you to
stay at our venue. Of course, if you need a suite and they have run out, or
if you intend on cooking, do go to the other places listed. But for regular
rooms, if there is still space, I want to encourage you to stay on-site. If
you book early, we can virtually take over the hotel, making it more like a
residential class. And the more of us that are in the hotel, the quieter
the hotel will be. There are all kinds of teenage groups that come through
Below is the list of the hotels
that we have agreements with. All are ocean-front, except the Golden
Sands Motel. You need to ask for the VortexHealing group to get the listed rate
(so don’t make the reservation online, unless you find a cheaper rate there).
In addition, keep in mind that our rates only apply up to some cut-off date in
2009 (usually 1 or more months before class), and only for as long as there is
availability. So book early and mention that you are with the VortexHealing
group. One advantage of using these hotels is that you can book now,
avoiding late-booking problems, since many hotels fill up in
1. Ocean Suites, at
Ocean Suites is all suites (no
regular rooms) and will work very well for those who want to cook their own
dinners. It is also an easier walk to the health food store, which is at
Ocean Suites was recently torn
apart by its new owners and completely redone. Everything is very new. All
suites have a private balcony overlooking the sea. Each suite comes with a
bedroom and a living room that has a pullout sofa and a fully equipped
kitchenette—with refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and electric
stove (no oven), and furnished with plates, utensils and pots & pans. Each
suite also has a 37-inch LCD TV with
The suites come in different configurations, some with 1 queen bed, some with 2 doubles and some with 1 double and 1 bunk bed (along with the pullout sofa in the living room).
Because this is essentially a new hotel, it has no regular clientele and so they are looking to bring people in with good rates. We will have a contracted rate for Omega of $89/night and for Multi-D Jewel a rate of $94 /night.
2.
This hotel is all suites, 138 of them. The suites are smaller than at our venue or at Ocean Suites, which is why all the bedrooms rooms have a single king bed rather than 2 queens. But they should be nice. A typical suite is shaped like a narrow rectangle divided into 3 rooms. You enter in the bedroom, go through that into a hallway with the bathroom to the side, and emerge out of the hallway into a living room that has a kitchen area in one corner. The living room opens to the balcony, which overlooks the sea. The living rooms have a queen pullout sofa.
There is free wireless in all the rooms.
The kitchens are fully equipped, with pots & utensils, and have 3 burner electric stovetops, an oven, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker.
The hotel has a dry sauna, steam sauna, hot tub and indoor heated pool.
RATES: For the Omega class in May, we have a daily rate of $99 + tax for a stay of 7 nights or more. Usually the weekdays are cheaper and the weekends more expensive, and usually there is an extra $10/night charge for each extra guest; our rate is an averaging of that for a 7-night or longer stay, and there are no extra charges for extra guests. The hotel is already booked for October.
Note that this hotel is 100% smoke-free rooms. Note also that it says it will charge a $250 room recovery fee if you smoke in the room.
3. The Breakers Resort Inn, at
They have standard rooms and 14 suites. In the standard rooms, there are 2 queen beds, a coffee maker, TV microwave and a refrigerator.
In the suites, the rooms have 2 queen beds and a pull down double bed in the living room —these are called ‘Murphy beds’, and they pull down from the wall. They also have 2 TV’s, one in the bedroom and 1 in the living groom.
The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric, 2-burner stovetop, a microwave, refrigerator and toaster, and provides pots & utensils. There is no oven.
All the rooms have private balconies overlooking the sea.
They also have king rooms with in-room Jacuzzis. These are a single room.
There is free high-speed Internet available, but you need an Ethernet cable. You can get one at the front desk for a $25 deposit, but you will not be charged if you return it.
The hotel has an outdoor pool and complementary bicycles (which would most likely require a deposit).
RATES:
May 15-17 and Oct 1-16: Standard Rooms: $85 Sun through Thurs, $110 Fri & Sat
Suites: 100 Sun through Thurs, 130 Fri & Sat
Note that additional people are $10/night + tax
Reservations are guaranteed by advance deposit of 1 night’s stay.
Note that they have a 72 hr cancellation policy.
4. Golden Sands Motel:
This is our budget motel. It is more basic, not on the ocean, and simply not as nice as the more expensive places. Even in name, it is a motel, not a hotel. But it is clean and less expensive, and the owner is friendly. It has both standard rooms and 10 efficiencies with kitchenettes. All rooms have 2 double beds, a TV and a refrigerator. The efficiencies also have a microwave, and are provided with plates and utensils. Many of the rooms have balconies, but again, these will not overlook the sea. Adjoining rooms are available. They do not have wireless, but they have phones in the room, which may enable you to get online through dial-up.
RATES: For May and October, our rates are $70+tax/night for a standard room, $80+tax/night for efficiency.
The motel closes for the winter. They will take a reservation with a credit card, and in April 2009, they will deduct the cost of the first night to continue to hold the room. I am told that you should ask for Antigone when you make your reservation, that the man who works there (Harry) is a bit scattered, and you want your reservation done correctly.
(Note that there is another
‘budget’ motel, the Flagship Motel & Efficiencies, with weekly specials in
October, in the list at the bottom of this file.)
If these hotels are full or you want to look elsewhere, remember that there is a list of ‘other’ hotels at the end of this file.

All the hotels listed here are within a 7-block walk of the
Surfside Oceanfront Inn & Suites, our venue, at 1211 Atlantic Avenue. To
see how far the hotel is from our venue, just look at the address. For instance
1503 Atlantic Ave is 3 blocks from 1211 Atlantic Ave. For hotels on Pacific
Avenue, add another block, since it is 1 block inland. (There are about 16 of
these blocks to a mile, making each block about .1 km.) Due to the
concentration of hotels in this area, there seemed no need to list any beyond
this small, 7-block radius, but many more can be found, at varying distances
from the venue, at http://www.vabeach.com/lodging/a-b.php.
(Note that near the top of that online page you have to click on a group of
letters to pull up the hotels that start with those letters.)
For the hotels below, I have listed their
approximate 2008 prices for some but not all of
them, as given to me over the phone. For some, I just checked their online
prices for Oct 2008 to get an idea of their price range as a hotel. Most will
not have their actual 2009 prices ready until much later in 2008, so booking at
this time may not even be possible. Also, for some of these hotels, the prices
they gave me would be without any of the kinds of discounts that you can often
find on the Internet, or with organizations like AAA or AARP, and for some
hotels, prices will go up and down depending upon availability. (If you have
AAA or AARP, you should always call to get that rate.) You might also be able
to get a better deal by telling them that you will have a long stay and by
asking for a better or a weekly rate. If a range is given such as $ 89-119 for
weekdays, this may represent a difference in cost for different kinds of rooms,
or it may mean that prices were lower for one week than another and the price
represents the range during that time. Also keep in mind that tax is not
included in these prices. All prices will have tax added to them. One thing
that is quickly obvious in comparing these prices to our venue (and the other
hotels we have agreements with) is what a good deal we are getting there.
If you are interested in being directly on the sea, then make sure your hotel and room are directly on the sea. Some hotels that say they have ocean-view rooms are not directly on the sea. Those hotels are actually across the street on Atlantic Ave, so, although you may be able to see the sea, you will really be looking at Atlantic Ave. If you want to be directly on the ocean, you want ocean-front rooms.
