Travelling
to Kinvara
Kinvara is a beautiful fishing port village located 18
kilometers south of Galway city in the west of Ireland. It is acclaimed for its scenic beauty and
tranquil atmosphere. Kinvara has long been a gathering ground for many artists and
musicians. Irish music and dancing are played regularly in the local bars.
Kinvara is located close to the famous Burren landscape full of wild flowers
and limestone mountains. It is only a short drive to many other famous
attractions such as the cliffs of Moher and the Ailwee caves. See www.kinvara.com
Arriving into Ireland, you have a choice to fly to either
Shannon airport or Dublin airport. From Dublin you can get a connecting flight
to Galway airport and this will usually be the easiest option. There is also a
direct flight from London Luton airport
to Galway with www.skyroad.com
Flying into Dublin Airport
Dublin airport is the main airport of Ireland. Most Airlines
fly into this airport and usually you can get quite cheap flights with
companies like Ryanair (www.ryanair.com)
or CityJet otherwise AerLingus (www.aerlingus.ie)
is the main carrier.
From Dublin you’ll have 3 options to get to Galway:
- Fly-
to Galway Airport.
This is the most comfortable option. The flight to Galway is about 45 min.
Galway airport is only 20 minutes drive from Kinvara, and 10 minutes from
Galway city. From the airport you can either call a Hackney taxi in
advance, or hire a car. The only airline flying Dublin to Galway is AerArann

.It is possible to order ticket online or else phone 00-353-1-8363333.The
office is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. When you arrive at Dublin
airport you take a connecting bus from outside the terminal building to
the Dublin Heuston train station. From there the train is to
Galway.
- Bus-
leaves Dublin airport every hour, starting at 9:15am. The last bus is
leaving the airport at 19:15. On Sundays only, there is an extra bus
leaving at 21:15. You can book the bus tickets in advance to secure your
place on the bus at 00-353-91-564163 or book online www.citylink.ie .On the website you can
check any further information. The journey should take about 4 hours.
Note: The bus and train from Dublin airport
will bring you to Galway city, from which you can catch a bus to Kinvara.

Otherwise book a hackney taxi to take you to Kinvara.
Flying into Shannon Airport
Shannon is situated about 80km south of Galway city. It is a
big, quiet and comfortable airport to fly into. It’s about one hour away from
Kinvara, and one and a half hours away from Galway city. Most airlines fly into
Shannon. Ryanair (www.ryanair.com) is a good option for flying into Shannon
from many locations in Europe. From
Shannon you can either
- Hire a
car from a large selection of car hire companies
- Order
a Hackney taxi in advance to take you direct from the airport to Kinvara.
- Take a
bus to Galway. Buses are about every two hours and are non-stop to Galway.
From Galway organize a hackney taxi to take you to kinvara. (40 min drive)
- Take a
bus to Ennis and then a second bus to Gort. From Gort organize a hackney
taxi to take you the rest of the way (15 min drive)
